General Health Care
It is the policy of the practice to try to prevent ill health, and in addition to try to minimise the effects of ill health. It is for this purpose that you may find the Doctor checks things like your blood pressure when you attend for a sore throat. You may also be advised to attend a health check with the nurse when you attend for a minor matter.
There will be occasions when having attended the surgery the Doctor feels that your illness is self-limiting and does not require any treatment with a prescription medicine to make it better. This does not mean that the Doctor feels that you have wasted your time or his/her by attending.
Other local NHS services
As well as our practice, there are many other local NHS services you can contact for health advice, information or treatment. Before you do, remember that you can treat many minor ailments such as colds, coughs and indigestion by keeping a well-stocked medicine cabinet at home.
Psychological Therapy
Do you suffer from mental health problems including:
- Generalised anxiety and stress related problems
- Panic attacks
- Depression, including pre and post natal depression
- Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD)
- Phobias
If so, there is a range of options available to you, and you don’t necessarily have to see your GP. East Surrey CCG has introduced self-referral for psychological therapy, meaning that you can book appointments direct with a therapist if you prefer not to talk to your GP. Alternatively, you can be referred by other healthcare professionals, such as nurses, midwives and therapists.
Self-referral for psychological therapy
If you think you need psychological support, you can contact a provider of psychological therapy services directly and ask for an appointment on the NHS. Direct access is open to all patients aged 18 and over who are registered with a GP practice in the East Surrey CCG area.
If you are experiencing a mental health issue, from mild to severe, there is a choice of four providers who can offer you support. You can either contact the providers directly (see below for contact details) or be referred by your GP or other health professional.
